Safety first, then cuteness--that's the official Barbie bike checklist. This 16-inch Barbie 2000 comes through on both counts as a reliable tooling-around-the-neighborhood bike. The all-steel frame rides on forgiving knobby tires with coaster brakes and detachable training wheels for those still learning. Padding on the handlebars, the adjustable seat, and the 18-inch-high top tube provide an extra measure of comfort and safety. (And while this isn't the sort of bike you want out after hours anyway, you might want to consider adding front, rear, and side reflectors, just in case.) All cuteness components have been comprehensively covered: pink and purple flowers cover the bike, and there are even plastic flowers in the wheels and a picture of Her Divine Pinkness on the front stem. The Barbie 2000 also comes with a small backpack (pink, of course) that holds a battery-operated radio for playing tunes on the road. --Paul Hughes
